Cool Artists: Helmick & Schechter 29 Sep 2006

Helmick & Schechter have been collaborating on sculpture projects since 1994. A shared interest in the mechanics of visual perception, especially the consolidating properties of human vision, led the artists to the overarching concept for their first collaboration, Ghostwriter, an interior suspended sculpture. Since then the artists have developed a range of experimental approaches. I've seen their "Impulse" sculpture (2nd image below) in person and they are gorgeous...tons of tiny cast pewter birds make up larger birds that hang beautifully and gracefully in the air...

our wedding: bridal party gifts 27 Sep 2006

Believe it or not, I actually do buy from the designers I post about on my blog! My bridesmaids gifts were truly a collection of Oh Joy posts as I turned to resources I've posted about in the past. I had a few things custom made from some young, up-and-coming designers and purchased items from some of my favorite shops & brands. For my bridesmaids...

Exterior: Gift box wrapped in bands of my favorite wrapping paper ever...plummy paper from Eieio. Messages were written on "wish" and "shine" cards by Port2Port.

Inside: Custom-made necklaces by Kara of Red Room Jewelry sit inside a Reef Sugar Bowl from Anthropologie.

An extra something for my two maids of honor...

Outside: Simply wrapped in Brady fabric from Repro Depot

Inside: custom clutches made by Shana of SML Bags. Rena of Rare Device told me about this new line a couple months ago...and I loved the "Vivian" style but wanted a couple made especially for the occassion. I chose a dark chocolate/reddish leather and two of the floral appliqués from other bags on her site.

And... 24 Sep 2006

...we're married! It was a wonderful day and so crazy how fast everything goes by! Thanks for all your super nice comments and emails over the past week. Here's a quick snippet of photos taken by Beth. It'll be a while before I get the real pics back from my photographer, but I'll post a few from our friends in the meantime & show more details soon. Yay!

And I'm off... 20 Sep 2006

...to get married! For the next couple days and for two weeks after that, I'll be away for my wedding & honeymoon. I've got some posts planned every few days while I'm gone (and maybe a snapshot or two from the wedding), so check on in while I'm basking in the sunshine & seafood of Maui. Thanks again for supporting this blog and for all your kind wishes.

Also, check out some of these other links (as well as my long-time favorites on the right side bar) for some great blog reading & visuals...

filling up the walls... 19 Sep 2006

Someday, when we have a large house (and not a tiny apartment) I really need to fill one room with all the design pieces and things I've been longing for. The girly, vintage, flowery stuff that most men wouldn't want within their own living space. My real apartment is actually much more serene and neutral. Here's some of that girly goodness from Sofia Antonovich in France. It looks like she sells her wall decals and other goodies through her blog...

Temperley: Spring 2007 18 Sep 2006

Temperley, one of my favorites, usually showcases collections with a lot of color and pattern. This season seemed a bit more subdued and everyday, but there were still some pieces in this very neutral-colored Spring '07 Collection that had some of the characteristic Temperly feel that I love so much...
