Cool Artist: Rebecca Purcell

While browing around Petulia's Folly today, I noticed a gorgeous knitted & beaded scarf by Rebecca Purcell. It turns out that Rebecca has has a long and successful career in design as a previous visual director for ABC Carpet & Home as well as a stylist for the Anthropologie catalog. Inspired by her collection of baubles, charms, and other materials her work comes across as fashion-oriented but are really inspired by memories and thoughts that started many years before each piece is made.

oh, habitat...

There are so many UK brands I love, and Habitat definitely tops that list. The fisrt time I discovered Habitat was seven years ago in Paris and haven't had a chance to go back since. With so many well-priced pieces and a diverse designer line-up, I think it would do amazingly well in the US...

Blueprint finds it's way...

I finally received the new issue of Blueprint yesterday...after, what seems like a very long break. I know that they've been trying to re-focus the magazine's direction with a new editor and new staff. After reading the latest March/April 07 issue, I totally love it now! It feels younger & fresher...and the variety of topics feel more cohesive. It's like a mix of Domino, Lucky, and Martha Stewart, with a little Jane thrown in there. While I wasn't sure about the multiple topics at first, I really think it works now. The magazine has a lot of sections that feel like blog posts...quick snippets of this and that, interspersed with longer editorials and great images...here's a preview from one of the crafty projects in the current issue...

Stray Dog Designs

I've got a bit of an obsession with lamps...I love them and would have a ton of I wasn't limited by space or money. There's something whimsical, yet still elegant, about these lamps from Stray Dog Designs. A lot of their pieces are on the cute side and would be great for kids, but my favorites are those that still feel just right for adults.

Philly LifeStyle

For those of you in Philly, I'm proud to announce that my first LifeStyle piece for the Philadelphia Inquirer's Home & Design section hit newstands this morning. I've taken over the regular Friday column from Grace Bonney and look forward to this new place where I can share some fun things for the home. You can also read it online, but it's definitely better in paper if you're local...
