happy holidays + a peeking rainbow...

Oh-joy-rainbow-holidays

It's been a crazy weather week here in LA with cats and dogs a plenty tumbling down from the sky. After the earth poured all of {what felt like} the ocean onto us, the rain finally stopped and the rainbows began to say hello. I didn't get to see a double rainbow like some of my fellow Angelenos, but I did spot this one stemming off of a cool blue house in the Silver Lake hills.

I {along with all the contributors at Oh Joy} would like to wish you and yours a warm, fun, and sweet holiday and new year and thank you for your readership and all your support this year! We'll be on a blog break {our one break a year!} through the holidays and look forward to seeing you back here on January 3rd!

I've been hearing buzz around the Twitterverse about the super cute blog, Hello Sandwich with these quirky gift wrap DIY videos and posts on the author's Japanese adventures. Then, to my delight, Ebony {a former Deputy Art Director of Vogue Living now residing in Tokyo} from Hello Sandwich emailed me a preview of her brand new gift wrapping magazine. Here are a few of my favorites from the premiere issue. If you're looking for some last minute gift wrapping ideas, Hello Sandwich is a must see super cute and whimsical resource just for you.

Even though I don't have kids yet, I'm still kind of obsessed with all the incredible designer kids lines sprouting off from some of my favorite adult clothing brands lately...including Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, Crew Cuts...and one of the most recent...Paul Smith Junior. Little striped outfits on little people in a striped mini cooper...swooning...

{closet & casa} with randi brookman harris...

Closet&casa_randi

who: Randi Brookman Harris, freelance Prop Stylist

why randi rocks: I was initially captured by Randi's eye for color and pattern in this gorgeous shoot. Then I fell into a bright hole of inspiration when I saw her entire styling portfolio...so dreamy!

in her closet: I always love a statement necklace that draws the eye up and brightens a face, especially with a mostly monochromatic wardrobe such as mine. My Venetian glass bead necklace was smartly snatched up by my mom on her trip to Italy in the 60's. I don’t really remember it on her neck, but I recall my complete obsession with it as an object {and plaything} since I was very little. I used to sneak into her drawer just to peek at it when I was 4 or 5. And when I was younger than that, I remember trying to eat it because I thought it was candy!

in her casa: When I first met my husband seven years ago and learned that his mom was an artist, that little factoid added to the “this guy really gets me” excitement of our new love! The first time he brought me home to Phoenix, Arizona to meet his parents, I knew I would fit right into his art-loving family. My now-mother-in-law Debby gave us this collaged painting to take back to New York City with us after that first visit. The color palette makes my eyes happy and my heartbeat quicken, and I can get lost in the layers of texture and brushwork. I have spent many hours staring at it over the years, and can always find a new favorite brushstroke or color I never saw before.

{two spots i'm loving}: paul smith + the eveleigh...

Paul-smith-evesleigh-los-angeles

Every day, there are more and more places I am slowly discovering here in LA. So for those of you who have been asking for recommendations while you're in town, {in addition to my local food finds} I thought it would be fun to share with you pairings of spots to eat & shop that I'm currently loving in LA. Each pairing will always be in the same neighborhood or in close vicinity to one another...

...shop for striped socks and vintage vases inside the hot pink structure known as the Paul Smith store on Melrose, then dine at the newly opened converted barn restaurant, Eveleigh, on Sunset {loved the pork belly, frozen dark chocolate sandwich, and amazing ambiance!}.
