happy friday + flowers among the rain...

Oh-joy-bando-flowers

We're prepping for a special party tomorrow to celebrate the Oh Joy for Target line. Of course, the one time a year it rains in Los Angeles is the weekend of our outdoor garden brunch. So we'll just have to get extra creative and show you how a garden party can look beautiful indoors, too. You can see some peeks tomorrow on my Instagram and I'll be posting about the party soon after.

Also, thanks so much for your helpful comments about house hunting and your kind words about the new site!

Have a great weekend!

Oh Joy / Veggie Pot Pie with Thai Green Curry

Ever since the quest for more vegetables in my life, I've been trying out some of the recipes you guys suggested and making an effort to make one vegetarian meal per week. Recently, my assistant, Casey, made a veggie pot pie I loved, so we worked together to spruce up the recipe a bit with the addition one of my favorite ingredients of all time—Thai green curry! The best part of this recipe is that you can use any veggies you have lying around and it's super easy...

a new oh joy!

Oh-joy-new-design2

Hey guys, you might notice something different over here today! It was time for a change, and we've updated the site to a brand new, clean look to go with all the fun, new things coming out this year. The blog now matches my OhJoy.com site (which houses all of my past work and the 411 on the Oh Joy brand). I hope you guys like the update—it was a fun change to make and sort of like getting a brand new wardrobe. (If you're reading this post via email, please click on over to see the new site! The email version will be updated to match very soon.)

Last year, I really tried to work on letting go of doing everything myself. So I hired the team at ALSO to redesign my website instead of doing it myself. It made a world of difference as I could really sit back and enjoy the process much more, and I love what they created. And thanks to my long-time programmers, Deko Design (who programs my main site) and Doan Designs (who programs my blog) for their technical skills that I would be lost without!

We're still working on some tiny tweaks and kinks to the blog so feel free to let me know if anything is functioning weird for you!

oh joy for target / behind-the-scenes, part 2...

Oh Joy for Target / Coming March 16th!

For the Part 2 peek behind my upcoming Oh Joy for Target collection, I wanted to share a little about my inspiration for the line and show you some of the party pieces up close and personal! We shot this video in a big studio and brought in real grass and a giant hedge to bring the garden party indoors.

The whole Target production team had a blast throwing confetti in my face and getting to play with the pieces afterwards. Check out the finished video below to hear about my inspiration behind the products and Ruby's reaction to seeing the party pieces for the first time...

P.S. You can see more images from the collection launching March 16th here and Part 1 of my behind-the-scenes peek right here...

on house hunting...

Craig-eva-sanders-photography

You guys...looking for a house is no joke. One of my hopes for this year is that we'll get to buy a house. We need more space and a yard and a home we can stay in for the next decade. We've been saving and saving and actually put in our first offer a couple weeks ago. We got all those very official papers together, got pre-approved for a loan, decided how much we'd be willing to offer, I wrote and designed a really nice offer letter, and we dove right in. And then...

Bo Nuage Los Angeles

Sometimes you just want a dessert that doesn't make you want to fall asleep afterwards. I recently had these beautiful meringue cloud cakes from Bo Nuage in West Hollywood. Whipped cream is sandwiched between layers of meringue, then covered in shaved chocolate. With flavors like dark chocolate, salted caramel, passionfruit, and almond, they make for a sweet afternoon treat with a cup of coffee or tea...

oh joy for target / behind-the-scenes, part 1...

Oh Joy for Target / Behind the Scenes

One of my favorite parts of developing my upcoming Oh Joy for Target collection was having a chance to work with so many creative people to produce amazing scenes and photos for the in-store marketing and packaging. Because I always love seeing what really goes on behind the camera, I thought I'd share a little behind-the-scenes from one of our shoots from last fall. This is when we created the environmental shots in my announcement post and that you'll also see in Target stores when the collection hits shelves next month.

Oh Joy for Target / Behind the Scenes

Over the course of a week last fall, a team of creatives—prop stylists, food stylists, photographers, producers, and art directors—came together to tell a story with the products I designed. They helped me show customers the beautiful parties and moments you can create with the collection.

Packages were wrapped, pretty foods were made, lots of props were styled, and a vision came together. Also, two-year-olds come in handy on set when they know there is a party to be had. It was especially fun having Ruby visit because this was soon after her 2nd birthday party, and she kept thinking the "party" was for her.
