styling with large prints

I love large prints. Often people don't commit to large prints because 1) They are more expensive than smaller ones or 2) They don't know if they can commit to one statement piece. But if you fall in love with an image and could see it in your home for years to come, try a large print. They make a statement and set a tone in a space that you'll love. See a few ways to style them right here...

color adventures: oh joy wears purple & blush... 30 May 2017

Purple-blush-outfits-48-blog

This month, I've had to dive down to deep within to really embrace purple (my least favorite color on the planet!) for this month's Color Adventures. I've put together four outfits in various shades of our May theme—purple and blush—from barely there purple to pow-wow purple! See how...

have a grand long weekend! 26 May 2017

Oh Joy Pattern Play

Happy Friday! Are you as excited for the long weekend as I am? We've had kitchen renovations happening in our office over the last couple weeks. While it's so fun to see it move along, it's also very distracting to have it be right there so close that I just want to agonize and make sure every detail is being done correctly.

This week, two of the ladies on my team—Angie and Julia—both celebrated their four year anniversaries at Oh Joy! How time flies...they've been around since I expanded Oh Joy from being just me to an actual office and in-person team. I'm so grateful they are still here helping me and the rest of the team create amazing things. The best is yet to come!

Have a great LONG weekend all! We'll see you back here on Tuesday after the Memorial Day holiday.

oh joy studio craft room: before and after! 25 May 2017

Color-02-Before-blog

With the move to our new Oh Joy Studio earlier this year, we needed a designated room for making and crafting all the projects that you see here. We have so many supplies that needed to be organized and stored in a way that makes everything easy to find and help the crafting and styling team work as efficiently as possible. We recently invited the IKEA Home Tour Squad into our office to takeover the craft room, and they completely blew my mind. They made the space so much more functional and beautiful—and now it's the room that everyone in the office wishes they worked in. See below for a short video of the complete makeover and more before and afters!

Purple-blush-patio-blog

If you have space in your home that crosses between indoors and out—a sunroom, covered patio, enclosed porch—we love the idea of mixing indoor and outdoor to combine them into one very summer-y and happy space. With this month's Color Adventures in purple and blush, here's a look at a pretty sunroom space...

chic + comfy dresses... 22 May 2017

Sonnet James

I am totally a dress person and wear them almost every day when the weather allows for it. But a lot of people say they can't wear dresses when they need to get a lot done or run errands or hang with their kids. Well, there are so many great options these days that are easy to wear, washable, and still look very put together. Here are a few of my favorites!

happy friday + styling my new hair cut! 19 May 2017

how to add texture and waves to straight hair

I recently chopped off my hair to a lob (long bob). It feels lighter and really great for summer. I am VERY minimal when it comes to hair and would prefer to roll out of bed and not do anything at all. But when your friend (who happens to be the founder of DryBar) says, "Let me show you what you can do with your new hair cut!"...you say, "OK!". So Alli Webb came by to style my hair, and we caught it all on video so that I could recreate it myself and show others who might have a similar length or type of hair how to style it, too!

If you can believe it, I am actually fixing my hair a few times a week now! It's a fun change to my normal straight hair, and I finish the whole thing in about 5 minutes. I love that the styling here is not about perfection, and looks best loose and however feels right! See the video above for the full how-to!

Have a great weekend all!

38! 18 May 2017

Oh Joy

Today, I celebrate my 38th year of life! I remember when I thought 38 was SO old...it seemed like I would never be that age. But once my 30's hit, I gained a new-found confidence. I felt stronger as a person, more confident in who I was, and it felt like I was just starting to turn into whomever I am really meant to be. I don't mean to get all mushy or anything on my birthday, but I also am feeling very happy and content about growing older. Things aren't perfect, there are lots of things I still want to do, but with age, I learn more, I become better at the things I love, and I get to better understand what makes me (and those in my life) happy...which is really the most important thing.

Thanks for following along here on this journey of mine, and I hope to keep bringing you back for a while to come!
