color adventures: a pink & blue living room...
8 Jun 2017

Every month, we've been exploring a new pair of colors and how to mix them together in our Color Adventures series. Today, we're inspired by this vintage rug—with shades of pink and blue—and showing how a living space could be created around it. While you may not be looking to style your space with these exact colors, the idea is if you come across an amazing staple piece that you just must have (like this vintage Moroccan rug), you can use it to inspired the rest of the space. Here are some tips!

color adventures: a pink & blue living room

1. Keep the walls neutral. When working with color in your home, always start with simple backdrop like white or neutral (grey, navy, etc.) walls.

2. Add your primary and secondary focal pieces. After adding your signature piece (the rug), add the next major focal point—the couch. Now, you could keep the couch neutral and let the pink rug be the main focus, but we played off the hint of blue and brought in a bold blue couch.

3. Keep the rest neutral. We kept the remaining accents pieces simple and neutral. Also, neutral doesn't always have to be white, black, or grey. Wood and leather bring in a natural element that makes a space feel cozy. And gold always adds a bit of extra shine and sophistication.

4. Add art that calms the room. We kept the artwork simple with a pop of pink from this flamingo print. If your artwork is too busy in a very colorful space, it could all become too crazy and busy. The calm print here helps to keep the focus on the rug and couch while still punctuating it with a bit of whimsy.

Finally, finish up the space with accessories that add hints of additional color and texture.

What do you think? Would you go bold like this in pink and blue?
