dull to colorful: an old wicker chair...

An Easy Way to Transform an Old Wicker Chair / Oh Joy!

We love finding vintage pieces and making them good as new! In the beginning of the year, we showed you how to spruce up a vintage end table, and today, we're showing you a very easy step-by-step on how to transform a vintage wicker chair into a beautiful, sleek addition to your home! Here's what we started with...

...an old wicker chair that had a great shape but the paint had worn off with age. Rather then repainting it white, we gave it new life in a new color and some added patterned cushion!

Here's how...

1. Wipe down your piece with a damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt. Let it dry from moisture, then spray with primer. Let dry for 15 minutes.

2. Spray with black spray paint (or color of your choice), and let dry for 1 hour.
3. Use paper to trace around the edge of the seat to make a pattern for the cushion. (If you want to see examples, check out this post!)
4. Trace cushion pattern onto the foam and cut away any excess foam.
5. Use the same paper pattern to cut out two fabric pieces for the cover, extending the line you draw about 1" out from the paper pattern (giving you room for a seam).
6. Either sew with thread or use no sew glue to finish the cover, leaving enough space to insert foam.
7. Turn inside out, insert foam, and glue or sew to seal the opening.

Finally, add the seat cushion to the chair. The fun part about the cushion is you can change out the fabric to give it a completely different look every few months if you'd like!

You can also add a standard square pillow to add some cushion for the back if desired!
