The Oh Joy Office: Final Reveal!

The Oh Joy Office: Final Reveal!

We spent most of the last year renovating our new Oh Joy office one space at a time. It takes a while for it to all happen, but it's been so fun and rewarding to see the space finally come together. I've loved sharing each reveal with YOU (see our beautifully organized craft room, dream kitchen, and my executive office reveal!), and I am so excited to show you the main office space today!

The Oh Joy Office: Final Reveal!

I wanted this space to feel very Oh Joy! but also have a lot of white space to stay crisp and fresh and to allow space for inspiration and ideas to grow daily. I worked with my friend Sarah Sherman Samuel who helped us to create a functional, yet beautiful and whimsical office space. The use of color is key to making all of the rooms at the Oh Joy! office feel cohesive. We used pops of pastels, white, gold, and sprinkles of bright accent color throughout. Come check it out...

This was the room in January 2017 when we first moved in. When we first moved in, we had everyone’s desk in here (including mine!). Since we were coming from a much smaller space previously, it seemed natural to have everyone all in one space again. I loved the ability to be able to see and hear everyone and easily have group conversations when needed.

And this is the space today! Once we established various sections of the office, it made sense for me to have an "executive" office since I am in meetings and phone calls a lot and for the styling/craft team to have room in the back where they could work on messier projects and have easy access their everyday supplies. Now, this space is where more than half of the Oh Joy! team (design, e-commerce, social media, and admin) spends their day.

Because this room is focused on desks with computers, function was a primary concern. Every desk needed to be near a wall so that it could plug into an outlet without having a dangerous cord going across the floor. We loved the idea of grouping desks together so that everyone had someone nearby while also giving everyone their own personal space—including a pin board for hanging up inspiration and plenty of storage to keep supplies and their personal belongings. By giving them that functional storage that we didn't have in the old office, it also allows the team to store their purses and jackets away safely while keeping the space less cluttered, too.

This room is also where we store many of the office’s supplies, working product samples, and a ton of very functional things we need but don’t necessarily want out to see all the time. The tall cabinets in the back were key in concealing all the supplies yet keeping them accessible and organized!

One of my favorite parts about the new space is the wall mural that Sarah custom designed. It’s a fun way to add some pattern and color to the space, but I also love how it goes down the wall onto the sides of the desk creating a really fun visual effect. The end cap on the sides of the desks are also an easy way to help cover up some of the unsightly things that you see under a desk (power cords, trash can, etc). We made that simply by cutting foam core exactly the size of the end of the desk and attaching the custom adhesive wallpaper to it.

Because Angie, our designer, needs a lot of wall space for pinning up inspirations and designs for new products we are working on, we chose her position in the room to be along a wall where we could extend her bulletin board out further and become a massive design wall that allows us to pin up everything needed for our design meetings.

Since this is the main part of our office and the hub of our studio (as it’s right between my office in front and the craft room in back), a lot of team pow-wows happen here. So we put in a conference table and lots of pale pink chairs to make sure that we had space to collaborate and have larger meetings when needed.

We have these great floating shelves from Ikea that we wanted to use in an abstract, fun way. So, Sarah came up with the idea to turn it into a whimsical, super playful rainbow wall! We got color-blocked teardrops and hung them from the bottom of the shelves with white string so it blends into the walls. It brings a super bright splash of color to the space that was otherwise an empty wall.

Thank you to Sarah for her amazing eye and ability to bring Oh Joy's aesthetic to life in our new space! And thank you to Ikea who helped upgrade our new office with so many beautiful AND functional pieces!
