I love my bedroom SO much. Not only do I see it as a place to sleep and rest for the night, but it's my wind-down space after a long day of work and being "on" for everyone. I can finally turn my brain "off" for a bit. But, to be honest, it can be really hard to truly turn off. I am guilty of having the TV on, while checking Instagram on my phone, while being on my computer checking work emails. So in partnership with Leesa, I challenged myself, and now you, to create the ultimate relaxation space with tips that will make your bedroom way more relaxing. Try one or all of these tips, and you'll be thanking me for a more rested YOU! Here are my 8 tips...

1. A soothing paint color. If you're moving into a new place OR you just need a bedroom makeover, a new paint color can be key in setting the tone for relaxation. We chose this soft greyish green. It has color, but not too much. It feels calm yet more unique than plain white. You can paint your whole bedroom in a soothing color (like we did here) or focus on one accent wall.

2. Notes to self. Since I'm a visual person, things for me are often "out of sight, out of mind". So when it's important for me to put something into practice, little notes or reminders are my friend. Here's an opportunity to get yourself into better habits with a note board you can keep somewhere. Whether it's to put your phone away after 8pm or be in bed by 10pm, help yourself out with a visual cue.

3. Brain dump. When I have a hard time falling asleep, it's because I have so many ideas floating around in my head or things on my to-do list for the next day. Let your brain dump all that information to be saved for tomorrow by keeping a small notepad by your bed. That way, if any thoughts come to mind just at you're about to start counting sheep, you can write it down and be on your way to slumbertown.

4. A great mattress. We recently tried the Leesa mattress out at a local West Elm, and it felt like laying on a supportive cloud. I would literally lay on this mattress all day. If you haven't changed your mattress in a while OR you find the one keeps you tossing and turning from lack of comfort, take a serious look at your mattress. 5. A cozy reading area. Sometimes I find that when I read in bed, I completely fall asleep mid-way through a book. Or, I have a hard time sitting up in a great reading position. If you have the space for it, create a small reading area with a cozy chair and blanket so you can feel relaxed for reading without being totally in bed.

6. Unplug bin. To help cut-down on screentime, you can give yourself a bin by your bedroom door to plug in your phone and devices but keep them away from your bed. To stick to good habits, we need to set ourselves up to make those habits easy to stick to! If you find yourself grabbing for your phone because you think you need it as an alarm, use a regular alarm clock instead.

7. Plant nook. Being surrounded by plants (and taking care of them), can be really relaxing. Create a small area with a few small or medium sized plants that grow well indoors and that you'll see everyday.

8. Cozy linens. Nothing gets me more excited for bed then being wrapped in soft sheets and blankets. To add to a great bed and relaxing surroundings, the icing on the cake involve your favorite sheets and blankets.
