Happy Friday everyone! Tomorrow is my 34th birthday, and I'm looking forward to finally having a birthday on the weekend (what a treat to have a whole day to celebrate with those you love).

Thank you all for your continual support and being part of making this past year so wonderful. I hope you all have an amazing weekend full of little celebrations...I'll see you back here on Monday!

happy friday + happy mother's day... 10 May 2013

Oh-joy-mom-friends

A special Mother's Day (and Happy Birthday) wish to my amazing mom, my mother-in-law, and my awesome friends who are moms near and far. I respect and admire you to no end. You guys keep me sane in those moments when I think I've had enough and understand me in those times when I can't imagine feeling more loved.

What do you guys have planned for Mother's Day? We're going to get dim sum (my favorite rare treat) and then go to the Echo Park Craft Fair to visit my favorite local makers. To all of you mothers everywhere, I hope you have an extra special weekend of love, back rubs, handmade cards, breakfast in bed, and other happy treats this weekend!

my new studio {work in progress}... 6 May 2013

Oh-joy-studio-progress
We've been working away on setting up the new Oh Joy studio space, so I wanted to share some inspiration and a little sneak peek with you guys! My friend Emily Henderson (or "EmHen," as we like to call her around here), is helping us design the studio. Emily has the uncanny ability to be able to imagine spaces and where things should go in a way I could never do. Plus, her sense of design is simply off the chain. She takes what I like and kicks it up a notch, for sure.

Here's a look at the "before" space and some of our inspiration. When she asked me what I envisioned, I told her I wanted it to be really white and bright, with accents of bright colors. Since there are some brick walls, I also wanted to enhance the warmth with woods, gray (my favorite non-colorful color), and, of course, a little pop of gold here and there.

Oh-joy-studio-progress-2We're also doing some really fun DIY's including one to the floor that involve about 12 rolls of painters tape. Here's a little peek from Instagram (where I'll be sharing even more peeks as we progress).

Oh-joy-studio-progress-3
You can also follow along with more of my studio inspiration over on our board on Pinterest, where I'm sharing even more studio inspiration, and see if you can imagine how it's all going to turn out. Stay tuned for some "after" photos within the next few months! I can't wait to have it all come together and be the place where my team and I can work, design, and create some exciting new things...

P.S. I'll be the keynote speaker at Alt For Everyone (the online version of the awesome blogger conference) in a couple weeks! Click here to sign-up and for the full schedule.

happy friday + being present... 3 May 2013

Oh-joy-ruby-running

The other night, as we were getting Ruby dressed for bed, I turned my head for one second and she fell off her changing table. Luckily, all her body parts stayed in tact and unbroken. But I held her tightly and cried and felt ashamed that I'd let that happen. While I know that it was an accident and that every parent goes through something similar, it made me realize that I wasn't focused on her completely in that moment. I may have been thinking about the work I needed to do after she went to bed or that I was cold or hungry or that I had to pee. Had I been paying complete attention, I could have prevented our little fall from ever happening.

I've realized that being present in each moment (while working, enjoying time with friends, or being with my family) is something I really need to be better at. Because as great as multitasking can sometimes be, it's not so great when your brain goes somewhere else and you lose sight of what you're doing during that particular moment in time.

...and how could I not soak up moments like this?

We take so many photos around here, that every so often there is one that just makes you smile over and over again. This one is it for me. I have no description for it and no story behind it. It just is what it is, and it just makes me happy to be right where I am right now.

Have a great weekend guys!

happy friday + what we did in palm springs... 19 Apr 2013

Oh-joy-palm-springs-ruby-pool-1

Our little getaway to Palm Springs was much different than past trips we've taken before. Ruby wasn't her usual perky self, and we spent a lot of time consoling a cranky, teething toddler. So this visit was much more low key, and we really spent the majority of time hanging by the pool and at the house where we were staying. But we did manage to have a few little adventures...

Yesterday, my friend Kelly and I did a little vintage shopping in Palm Springs. While at Revivals, I found these cute little stools for my new studio. They're not really practical at all, but they're pretty darn cute and were only $15 each! We might recover them in a new fabric, but I also love the colors as they are. And, when I brought them back, a certain someone couldn't get enough of these pint-sized seats...

Happy Friday guys! Our little lady is eighteen months today! The past few months have been so fun as she's been getting more verbal and aware of what's around her. I hear from eighteen months on it gets even better, and I can't wait to see how she amazes us even more with her humor and happiness.

As you guys probably know, I love color. I can't believe I used to dress mostly in gray and black, because now I feel naked without some sort of color on. For the month of April, I'll be sharing some of my favorite ways to bring color into my life over on my "Life in Color" Pinterest board in collaboration with Target. Each week focuses on a different color, with new pins every day and a mix of my own photos from my daily life as well some of my favorite inspirational images within decor, food, and fashion from around the web. I hope you'll follow along for a blast of color each day. Here are a few of my favorite blue and green moments from the first week...

happy friday + a little bit of confetti... 5 Apr 2013

Last weekend, we went on an Easter egg hunt in the park. Our friend that organized the get-together made cascarones (hollow eggs filled with confetti), and Ruby just loved them. She had never seen or played with confetti before, and she kept asking for "More, more!". Once we had smashed three eggs worth of confetti, we spent several minutes picking confetti out of the grass to keep her going for a few more rounds. Wishing you a weekend full of tiny bits of color and magic...

P.S. More confetti fun... and thanks so much for all your kind comments, tweets, and emails about my new studio space
