do you like wearing shorts?

How to make shorts sophisticated / Oh Joy!

I feel like people either LOVE shorts...or truly don't like wearing them at all. I used to wear shorts ALL THE TIME in high school because I played tennis, and it was part of the culture. Plus, I always liked my legs and never minded showing them off. However, I've noticed in the last couple years, I have been wearing longer skirts and dresses and pants and covering up my legs. Maybe it's cause I am getting older (almost 39!) and felt like I had to cover up for some reason? Well, recently my friend Morgan at BURU asked me to style some pieces from her shop, and I challenged myself to wear shorts in a way that I felt was age-appropriate and chic. So I thought I'd share with you what I learned...

Oh Joy! x Erin Condren Planners are HERE!

When seeking collaborations, I aim to work with companies who create products that speak to my life as an on-the-go working mom. In addition to whatever to-do’s I have on my personal work calendar, I need to coordinate my family’s plans, events, appointments, and play dates, which can be stressful. Erin Condren’s Lifeplanners™️ are THE go-to planner when it comes to keeping life organized. They help me focus on enjoying life and not stressing about forgetting any of the little details.

happy friday + work in progress...

Oh Joy! Self Help Book List

The other day, I was reading one of the books above (a parenting book), and Ruby asked me what I was reading. I told her, "Well, I am reading this book about how to be a parent." She responded, "You already are one, why do you need to read about it?" And I replied, "Well, this job is really hard and sometimes I have no idea what I am doing!" Then, she shrugged her shoulders and went back to playing.

Currently, I'm in a bit of a discovery phase of my life. I'm trying to grow in areas that I think I could use help in, and also be open to changes knowing that there is so much more to come that I don't even know about yet. I understand that was the most vague sentence ever, but all I mean is that I am very aware of the work in progress that I am as a person, a parent, a friend, a leader, a mentor...so I am reading more than usual right now and wanted to share those reads with you if you're interested!

The Yes Brain: How to Cultivate Courage, Curiosity, and Resilience in Your Child — I just started reading this book. The sub-title speaks to what it's about but what I am loving so far is that what they are teaching to you as a parent can also be applied to your own life in addition to your child's life. Curiosity, courage, and resilience are qualities we all need!

Now Say This: The Right Words to Solve Every Parenting Dilemma — I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this over the holiday break, and it came at the perfect time where I could really focus on putting these tips into practice while home with my kids during the long break. There are some key steps from this book that I use everyday when dealing with meltdowns and disagreements. It's also helped to retrain the way I respond to my kids during their most upset moments. I am getting ready to read it again because I need a refresher with every stage of parenting!

Authentic Success: Essential Lessons and Practices from the World's Leading Coaching Program on Success Intelligence — This book is the only non-parenting book I am reading right now because my life coach (yes, I started working with a life coach!) has me reading it. It has raised a lot of questions for me about what success really is and my vision of success. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is very goal oriented and always looking for what's next on the bucket list.
