{oh joy eats dessert with} i heart pies...

Who  Emily and Nicholas Confrancesco, owners of I Heart Pies, a local seasonal pie delivery company in LA

Where  Los Angeles, California

Time 6pm

What's a typical dessert for you? Ice cream or mochi! Today it's a caramel brownie and caramel mousse topped with a toasted marshmallow. It's a combination of leftover desserts made for clients and a new caramel mousse pie filling from our test kitchen. If you don't feel like making everything from scratch like we do, you can recreate the caramel brownies by using your favorite brownie mix or recipe. Before baking it, spready a layer of caramel on top of the brownies. Use a knife to run it through the brownies to incorporate the caramel just a bit. You don't want to mix them together, just enough to have a good caramel swirl. Bake until the brownies are done - a toothpick comes out clean. You can recreate the caramel mousse by taking your favorite caramel sauce and folding in whipped cream or buying a really great caramel ice cream. Top the dessert with marshmallows and, if possible, toast with a blowtorch!

What's your dream/ideal dessert? Reese's Pieces sundae from Friendly's {in that giant fish bowl!}.

How often do you treat yourself to dessert? As a pie company, we treat ourselves to dessert...Way. Too. Often. :)

Thanks Emily and Nicholas!

oh joy mailers...

Hey guys, there's a limited number of letter-sized mailers from my Oh Joy home office collection for Chronicle Books left! So here's your last chance to get some before they're gone! I use them to mail documents to clients, letters to friends, and fun oversized flat packages. There are four different designs per package and printed in silver, copper, gold, and white on jumbo kraft envelopes. You can get them for a little while longer right here! — Joy

{flavor stories} cardamom & cream cheese squares...

Hello! How are things? With Thanksgiving just around the corner in the States, I thought it'd be fun to make a simple pumpkin dessert. Truth be told, I'll take just about any excuse to bake with pumpkins, especially the pretty gray and green ones.

These squares are a combination of sorts—half no-bake cheesecake and half pumpkin pie—with a touch of cardamom. They're great for dessert or even as a mid-afternoon snack. Plus I think they're a tasty addition to a holiday get-together.

little prints for little people...

As I work on finishing up the baby's room {yep, I got a little behind since she came early - woops!}, I'm seeing so many fun prints that would be great for decking the walls as she grows. I love this fun version of an alphabet print by Indigo Bunting and this glow in the dark print by Omy that changes from day to night! — Joy

boho glam...

With the holidays coming up, glitz feels ever so perfect. I love the combination of sparkle with a bit of boho edge in Free People's winter collection...that I had to share a couple of my favorites. I'm digging this sequin jacket over jeans, and I especially love that first look with the boucle coat, and this sparkle skirt KILLS me...gah! — Joy

happy friday + cats with babies...

When our friends and family come over to visit the baby, everyone asks how our cats have adjusted to the baby? The truth is...our cats probably preferred their life before Ruby came into this world. They were our first set of babies and they got all of our extra attention. For the most part, they leave her alone...but now they dart across the room when the baby cries, they wonder why they're not allowed to sleep in our room at night, and, I have to admit we just haven't given them quite as much attention as before. Bruce {shown up top} is my favorite and my sidekick and he no longer gets much tummy time because Ruby gets that now.

I need to get better at giving them more attention, but with a newborn, it can be overwhelming. Do you guys have any tips for keeping your pets happy with a new baby? One tip I can give you about how to get your cats to not go into the baby's crib or bassinet...put sheets of lint roller paper in there! As soon as they jump in, their paws stick to it and they hate that feeling. Once our cats tried it, they never went back in there again, and we don't have to worry about them jumping in her crib!

In sweeter, cat & baby moments, I leave you with this little video of Lucy saying hello to Ruby {maybe this dress is just what I need}. Have a great weekend everyone! — Joy
