When having friends over for dinner (or even a weekend brunch), it’s nice to make something to display at their seat, and I love using seasonal flowers to make these floral place cards.

I like growing my own flowers whenever possible with the help of Miracle-Gro®, as then I always have something beautiful and on-hand to incorporate into my designs. You can either snip from florals from your garden or buy from a local store. When potting plants outdoors, make sure to use a potting mix (like this one from Miracle-Gro which is specially formulated for the needs of plants growing in containers).

You’ll need:
-plastic test tubes
-cut flowers from your garden
-garden shears
-garden gloves
-gold twist ties
-3 mm split ring
-decorative plastic letters

Here’s how:
1. Place the split ring around the plastic letter. Weave the twist tie through the split ring and attach it to the test tube.

2. Snip flowers of your choice so they have a stem long enough to keep the flowers hydrated in the floral tubes. With fall just around the corner, now’s a great time to bring in some of the deeper colors that nature has to offer. I love deep pinks and oranges around this time of year.

3. Arrange a few buds to your liking.

4. Keep cool in the fridge until you’re ready to set the table and place at each seat. Because they are in the tube of water, they should last at least one day so your guests can bring home too.
