We're Hiring a (Temporary) Designer! / via Oh Joy!

It's a baby boom over here at the Oh Joy! office! My designer extraordinaire, Angie, is pregnant with her third baby! She is my right-hand lady when it comes to designing prints and patterns for all our Oh Joy products, helping me to concept products, and designing all the graphics for our brand's collateral. I am looking for a talented graphic/surface pattern designer to help fill-in while Angie is on maternity leave for a few months beginning at the end of September. This is an amazing opportunity to work at our studio, build your design portfolio, and get to be part of designing and creating so many different things. Here are more details if you or someone you know is interested...

Duties include:
-Working with Joy on design/production/creation of Oh Joy! products
-Creating and designing original patterns and illustrations
-Putting patterns into repeat for production
-Drawing CADs and prepping files for production
-Graphic design for Oh Joy promotional materials, website, branding, video, etc.

-Minimum of three years experience as a graphic designer with advanced knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
-Ability to take art direction well and translate that into designs, patterns, and illustrations (both hand-drawn and digitally-drawn)
-Ability to draw 2D CADs in illustrator
-A strong sense of composition and typography
-A love of fashion, home decor, and childrens' products
-Illustration and animation skills are a plus

(NOTE: If your experience is more in graphic design OR surface pattern design—and not both—please make that clear in your application. We will still consider you, but want to understand your strengths.)

This is a paid, temporary, position (between 3-5 days/week) to start at the end of September and go for 4-5 months. Exact pay will be based on experience. You must live in the Los Angeles area, have access to a car, and be able to work out of our studio in Frog Town (near Silver Lake).

In order to apply, please download and fill out this application then email it to: [email protected] with: “OH JOY DESIGNER” in the subject line. We will be accepting applications and reviewing them by August 1st. If you or anyone you know fits the bill, we would love to hear from you!
